From Radio Kerry:
Centralisation is one of the diseases of the modern age. That's according to Killarney Town Councillor Michael Gleeson. The issue of the town council not using local suppliers was raised at a recent meeting of the council. Fianna Fail Councillor John O'Donoghue told the meeting that it was an absolute disgrace to be asking businesses to pay rates, when the local authority doesn't use their services. While, fellow Fianna Fail Cllr, Tom Doherty, says centralising services does not equate to saving money, he says it leads to closing schools and local communities. Town Clerk Michael O'Leary told the members that they have to use suppliers on the Government appointed list when purchasing stationary, ICT equipment or other supplies.
