From Radio Kerry:
Tralee has won its first ever gold medal in the national Tidy Towns competition. The prize winners were announced at a ceremony in Dublin earlier today, and gold medals were also awarded to Killarney, Kenmare and Listowel. Also among the prize winners was Sneem, which took a silver medal in its population category, and the villages of Knightstown and Portmagee, which won bronze medals. Chairman of Tidy Tralee, Brendan O'Brien, says increasing the town's overall marks by six points was a massive achievement in just one year, and will encourage the committee to aim even higher next year. He says the gold medal was a long time coming.
