Radio Kerry:
A Kerry South deputy says the fact that more companies have closed than opened this year is a terrible indictment on the Government's policy on job creation. Independent deputy Michael Healy Rae says this is just one of the findings from the latest study from the credit risk analysis firm Vision Net. According to the figures 8,664 companies have gone broke in the first eight months of this year while 8,184 businesses began trading. Deputy Healy Rae says the Government keeps missing the point when they talk about creating new jobs. He says they should be focusing on trying to secure the existing jobs that are in Ireland and creating an environment where employers will be able to keep themselves, and a number of employees, in employment. The Independent deputy says this country was built on the backbone of small businesses and small farmers and the Government must do everything that it can to ensure that these employers will continue to be in a position to trade.
